15,973 facilities declared on Waste Declaration System (WDS) in 2019, and the total amount of medical waste declared was 109,478 tons. This represented percent 7.1of the total amount of hazardous waste (excluding mining waste). Medical waste has been successfully rendered harmless in the sterilization facilities and incinerators established in Turkey since 2008^[56].
